As a key GPEDC stakeholder, we invite your views to assess the Bern Principles - the first-ever principles for effective support to national statistical systems and the use of data for development. The Bern Principles were developed under the leadership of the Swiss Co-Chair and within the GPEDC Action Area 1.2 on Statistical Capacity and Data. The Principles build on the work of the GPEDC Secretariat (2020-2021) and a first round of consultations within the statistical community (early 2022).

The Bern Principles should guide actors’ support to strengthen national statistical systems and the use of data for development. Each Principle is followed by Actions which:

  • Provide a common framework to facilitate dialogue and trigger strategic actions by partner country governments, their development partners, the private sector and civil society. statistics logo
  • Take into account the specific roles, opportunities and incentives of the different partners involved, for stronger country-level statistical systems and data use.

This online consultation will run from 26 April to 20 May 2022.

Your feedback will shape a further revised proposal to be submitted for consideration at the next Steering Committee meeting (July 2022); before being launched at the Effective Development Co-operation Summit (Geneva, Switzerland, 12-14 December 2022).
