UNIDO, in collaboration with UN Women and FAO, is holding an online conference “Women in Industry and Innovation” on July 15-17. The conference will gather government representatives, private sector actors, experts, entrepreneurs, researchers and other relevant stakeholders, in an effort to promote the development of an inclusive and sustainable environment for the economic empowerment of women. 

 

The conference “Women in Industry and Innovation” will gather government representatives, private sector actors, experts, entrepreneurs, researchers and other relevant stakeholders, in an effort to promote the development of an inclusive and sustainable environment for the economic empowerment of women. Inspired by the stories of female leaders and entrepreneurs, the format of the conference aims to ensure a high level of engagement and interaction among stakeholders and participants. The themes of the conference are: (i) Harnessing the potential of women-led entrepreneurship and self-employment in value chain development, (ii) realising the opportunities for women’s empowerment through ICTs and digital technologies, (iii) Empowering women in circular economy: Bridging the gender gap.

 

The various sessions, virtual exhibit booths and networking spaces will highlight productive opportunities presented for women’s economic empowerment and improved resilience in the face of crises such as COVID-19. Moreover, the conference will promote business and theme-specific networks to reinforce dialogues and foster strategic and business linkages.

 
Event relation to development co-operation: The conference will gather policy-makers, practitioners and women entrepreneurs from around the world to discuss women’s economic empowerment while also highlighting specific initiatives being taken to further the goal of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
